The ACU Highlight of Dr. Ben Carson

This week, the American Conservative Union highlighted Dr. Ben Carson. Here is what they had to say about the future head of Housing and Urban Development:

The American Conservative Union (ACU) is pleased to name Dr. Ben Carson our next “Conservative in the Spotlight,” a distinction awarded to a conservative leader who acts boldly to defend conservative principles.

“The nation will be in good hands with Dr. Ben Carson serving as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development,” said ACU Chairman Matt Schlapp.  “As a political outsider, Secretary Carson will bring his impressive intellect and common sense solutions to an agency that has been mired in decades of bureaucracy and special interests that have done little to improve the lives of those it is entrusted to serve.”

Dr. Carson served as the Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital from 1984 to 2013.  In 2001 he was named one of the 20 leading physicians and scientist by Time magazine.  In 2006 the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) awarded Dr. Carson the Spingarn Medal for outstanding achievement.  President George W. Bush awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2008.

Dr. Carson rose to national prominence when he publicly criticized Obamacare and other failing liberal policies in front of former President Obama at the 2013 National Prayer Breakfast.  After the success of his speech, and with the assistance of a massive grassroots support, Dr. Carson ran for President in 2016, announcing his campaign shortly after speaking at ACU’s CPAC conference in 2015.

While campaigning, he was a tireless crusader for an end to the big government status quo that has failed Americans, and denounced the politically correct liberal policies that have time and time again been proven ineffective and costly.  He instead championed for conservative principles, advocating for a return to faith, family, and free-market ideals that would restore America’s place in the world.

He is author of several bestselling books including A More Perfect Union: What We the People Can Do to Reclaim Our Constitutional Liberties and America the Beautiful: Rediscovering What Made This Nation Great.

Dr. Carson is a graduate of Yale University and the University of Michigan Medical School.  He and his wife Candy have three sons.
