Nine members of a Mormon family were viciously murdered on Monday, while traveling near the U.S.-Mexico border. Officially, three women and six children were killed after an organized ambush on their vehicle convoy by members of the Mexican Cartel.
According to reports from the Daily Caller, three vehicles were passing through the Mexican states of Chihuahua and Sonora, when Mexican cartel members organized a deadly ambush. A member of the victim’s family, Alex LeBaron claims the attack resulted in the vicious murder of two infants, four children under 14, and three women who all belonged to the Mormon chapter.

All the victims in the deadly cartel ambush held dual citizenship in the United States and Mexico.

“Women and children (between 14 years old and 10 months) were massacred, burnt alive. Mothers were screaming for the fire to stop,” LeBaron said. “We are a very tight knit community; we share everything that’s happening. We’ve been dealing with this tragedy since early yesterday. We share all information within our family groups.”
Along with the nine deaths, seven children were also injured during the attack, all of whom were flown from Mexico to an Arizona hospital in Tucson. The victims were treated with severe burns and gunshot wounds after vehicles were burned with passengers inside, while others were rattled with gunfire.

All the victims belonged to the LeBaron family, a “fundamentalist Mormon community” that has lived peacefully along the southern border for years. Surviving members of the ambush described the horrific scene, saying children were being gunned down trying to escape, while others were burned alive inside their own vehicles. Via the Daily Caller.

“As a mother I feel angry, scorn and a profound pain for the cowardly events in the mountains between Sonora and Chihuahua,” Sonora Gov. Claudia Pavlovich Arellano tweeted. “I don’t know what type of monsters would dare to hurt women and children. As governor, you have all my collaboration so that this doesn’t remain unpunished and the responsible parties pay.”
The deadly ambush took place while the Mormon chapter was moving to Janos, Chihuahua, from Bavispe and Sonora. According to reports, there was two separate attacks by two organized groups from the same cartel faction. Investigators believe the cartel mistook the Mormon family for a rival cartel, prompting the deadly attack. Via the Daily Caller.

U.S. investigators have yet to release the specific cartel family responsible for the vile attack. This ambush stamps the latest example of the overwhelming violence surrounding our southern borders, and the violent cartels who seemingly control all of Mexico.

Late last month Mexican officials captured and detained cartel boss El Chapo’s son, but was forced to surrender the captive after authorities were quickly outnumbered by soldiers of the Sinaloa cartel faction. The surrender of El Chapo’s son demonstrates Mexico’s inability to effectively control the cartel presence in their own country.
