Chicago Democratic Mayor Lori Lightfoot has recently stated that she will refuse to cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents' nationwide task of deporting illegal immigrants from large cities across the United States...
The ICE tasked operation was scheduled to begin last weekend, and is expected to target up to 2,000 illegal immigrant families. These illegals will face deportation, and the nation-wide sweep is ordered in up to 10 “sanctuary cities” with large masses of known illegal immigrant communities. The ICE raid cities will include: Houston, Chicago, Miami and Los Angeles. Via The Hill.
Plans for the country wide ICE raids were introduced by President Trump last week, crafting a series of tweets that reassured American citizens that ICE will begin the process of deporting “millions” of illegal immigrants this week.
"Next week ICE will begin the process of removing the millions of illegal aliens who have illicitly found their way into the United States. They will be removed as fast as they come in," President Trump tweeted.
The Democrat Mayor of Chicago Lori Lightfoot has decided to oppose President Trump’s ICE mission, choosing to protect illegal immigrants living and trespassing in Chicago. Lightfoot specifically directed the Chicago Police Superintendent to terminate all of ICE’s access to the city police data bases in relation to cases involving illegal immigrants. “We are all aware of the threat from President Trump regarding raids by ICE, and in response, Chicago has taken concrete steps to support our immigrant communities. I have directed – and Superintendent Johnson has confirmed – that CPD has terminated ICE's access to CPD's databases related to federal immigration enforcement activities. I have also personally spoken with ICE leadership in Chicago and voiced my strong objection to any such raids. Further, I reiterated that CPD will not cooperate with or facilitate any ICE enforcement actions.” Said Lightfoot via Twitter.
According to reports from The Washington Post, ICE agents have been preparing for the “multi-day operation,” and will be using specific hotels throughout raided cities as temporary “staging areas” to detain illegals until they are processed for official deportation…
“Due to law-enforcement sensitivities and the safety and security of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement personnel, the agency will not offer specific details related to enforcement operations before the conclusion of those actions,” ICE spokesperson Matthew Bourke said in a statement to The Hill.
“As always, ICE prioritizes the arrest and removal of unlawfully present aliens who have received criminal convictions; have pending criminal charges; are determined to be a national security or public safety threat; or are an immigration fugitive.”
Bands of Democrats have already tried to oppose President Trump’s efforts to enforce longstanding immigration law, claiming the ICE raids are strictly part of a scheme to press more votes from those who have a firm stance on immigration in route to the 2020 presidential election. Democratic Presidential candidate Kamala Harris has continued to push this narrative on Twitter. Via The Hill.
“Millions of people will enter this weekend filled with fear. Children who are U.S. citizens will wonder if their mothers will be ripped from home in the pre-dawn hours before church on Sunday. And why? So Trump can vilify immigrants as part of a political campaign. It's shameful,” Said Harris.
